ACHARYA ERIC P. SPIEGEL Eric Spiegel is an Acharya (senior teacher) in the Shambhala Buddhist tradition. After helping to found the Naropa Institute in Boulder in the 1970s, Eric returned to New York where he worked on Wall Street for 22 years, exploring the intersections between the view of meditation and “worldly” activity. He has worked extensively with people with HIV/AIDS and cancer, helping them to explore the dharma as their situations evolve, and also teaches yoga.

Originally from Boulder, Colorado, she taught there for many years, worked as an administrator at Naropa University, as an editor at Shambhala Publications and served as managing editor of Shambhala Sun Magazine. In the mid-eighties, she moved to New York and began teaching at the Shambhala Meditation Center of New York.

JOHN BAKER met CHÖGYAM TRUNGPA , the founder of Shambhala Training, in 1970 and has been a student and teacher of the Shambhala Buddhist teachings since that time. John is the co-editor of the books Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism and The Myth of Freedom. He is a co-founder and former CEO of Naropa Institute (now Naropa University).
